Published on: August 18, 2022

The Bois Forte Band of Chippewa, which operates Big Woods Transit, was awarded $9,514,984 from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s 2022 Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) program. The grant will be used to construct a transit facility to house, maintain, and clean vehicles for Big Woods Transit. The facility is designed for parallel parking to maximize use of the space. The facility includes a bus wash, mechanics work bay with a lift, and a solar power generation system.

The RAISE program helps urban and rural community move forward on projects that modernize roads, bridges, transit, rail, ports, and intermodal transportation. The RAISE program also makes transportation systems safer, more accessible, more affordable, and more sustainable. This year’s allocations include more than $2.2 billion thanks to the President’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which provides an additional $7.5 billion over five years for the program to help meet the strong demand to help projects get moving across the country.
