Expired Learn about the NEW Guide from Center for Medicare Medicaid (CMS) and Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT)

Recently the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued new comprehensive guide to state Medicaid Directors providing an overview of requirements, policy, and guide for the assurance of transportation in Medicaid as a mandatory service. The Guide clarifies existing policy, explains new approaches and encourages best practices.

This presentation will summarize the Non-emergency Transportation (NEMT) guide that most directly impacts public transportation and transportation coordination efforts. Emphasis will be placed on the opportunities that this Guide provides to increase dialog with state Department of Human Service (MNDHS) Medicaid programs, brokers and Managed Care Organizations regarding public transportation agencies role in the provision of NEMT services. The publication entitled “Assurance of Transportation: A Medicaid Transportation Coverage Guide” calls on states to “fully operationalize,” monitor and improve the way they meet the transportation assurance and outlines the flexibilities that states are afforded.”
