FTA Announces $8.75 Million Funding Opportunity for Tribal Transit Projects

Published on: February 22, 2022

FTA today announced the availability of up to $8.75 million in Fiscal Year 2022 competitive grant funding to support transit services for American Indian tribes and Alaska Native villages in rural areas. A Notice of Funding Opportunity has been published in the Federal Register. The application period will close on May 25, 2022.

FTA’s Tribal Transit Program is authorized by Congress to support public transportation for federally recognized Indian tribes and Alaska Native villages, groups, or communities in rural areas.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, signed into law President Biden on November 15, 2021, authorizes $45.8 million in competitive funding over five years for transit on Indian reservations, an increase of nearly 83%. The Tribal Transit Program advances the Biden Administration’s commitment to modernize our nation’s transportation infrastructure, advance racial equity and support underserved communities.
