FTA Announces Availability of $21 billion in FY 2023 Funding

Published on: January 27, 2023

FTA today announced it is making about $21 billion available to transit agencies and communities in Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 funding to support public transportation throughout the country, detailed in apportionment tables for each program.

Full-year funding is available following Congressional passage of an FY 2023 appropriations act last month. Transit funding increased overall compared to FY 2022, which will allow agencies nationwide to continue to buy new buses and railcars, address their repair backlogs, modernize their fleets, and transition to new technologies to address the climate crisis.

The FY 2023 Apportionments Notice, which provides further details on procedures and requirements related to grant administration, will be published in the Federal Register at a later date. In the meantime, the tables containing funding amounts by program type and locality (state or urbanized area) will be sufficient for many recipients to begin their applications for FY 2023 funding through FTA’s electronic grant system, TrAMS.
