Join FTA for Transit Automation Listening Session at TRB Conference (July 22)

Published on: June 30, 2022

Join FTA staff during the Transportation Research Board’s Automated Road Transportation Symposium (ARTS) 2022 conference to help inform the next phase of transit automation research. The one-hour listening session will provide an in-person opportunity to stay on the leading edge of changing technology by contributing your thoughts to FTA’s automation research, including priorities to inform future demonstration projects.

In January 2018, FTA published the Strategic Transit Automation Research (STAR) Plan, a five-year research plan on automation for transit buses. It establishes a research and demonstration framework that leverages the core strengths of academia, public institutions, and the private sector. FTA’s efforts aim to help determine the potential benefits and costs of transit bus automation, and to provide transit agencies with the resources, guidance, and tools to make informed deployment decisions.

In preparation for the next version of the STAR Plan, FTA seeks input through a request for information published in the Federal Register from public and industry stakeholders on the next phase of research, collaboration and engagement, technology development, and demonstration of ADS or ADAS necessary to improve the safe, efficient, equitable and climate-friendly provision of public transportation and sustain the associated workforce.

In coordination with this summer’s ARTS 2022 conference in Garden Grove, California, FTA will convene an in-person stakeholder listening session Wednesday, July 20, from 7:30-8:30 p.m. CT. We hope that you will join us for a lively discussion related to the future of transit automation research. No registration is required to participate in the listening session.
